Padel Court Dimensions & Technical Standards

A padel court is 20 metres long and 10 metres wide. Back and side walls are 3 metres high, with glass and mesh fencing enclosing the court. The net spans the full width, standing 88 cm high at the centre and 92 cm at the posts. Indoor courts require a minimum clear height of 6 metres, with 8 metres recommended for professional play.

Indoor vs Outdoor Padel Courts: Costs, Usage & Maintenance

Outdoor courts must withstand wind load and UV exposure; galvanised or powder-coated steel reduces corrosion risk.

Indoor builds absorb higher capital outlay (roof, HVAC) but generate 30–50% higher utilisation in cold or wet climates, offsetting cost in markets with year-round demand.

Costs of Padel Court Explained

  • Groundworks

  • Glass thickness – upgrading from 10 mm to 12 mm tempered glass adds a further cost to the court, but does reduce breakage risk.

  • Noise cancellation

  • Turf choice – different turf grades to choose from.

  • Court Model – depends on whether you choose classic, panoramic or full panoramic.

Frequently Asked Questions - Padel Calculator

From the first shovel in the ground to the opening rally, most turnkey projects take around 6 to 12 weeks.

The longest phase is usually groundworks and waiting for materials (4 to 8 weeks), followed by a rapid on-site assembly of the prefabricated steel-and-glass kit—typically just 3 to 10 days per court once the slab has cured.

If you're converting an existing hard surface, the schedule can shrink to about 8 weeks. In contrast, greenfield sites or covered structures with complex foundations may push timelines toward the upper end.

Key time-drivers include:

  • Local permit lead times and any acoustic or lighting studies requested by the municipality.

  • Shipping or customs delays for the glass and lighting columns.

  • Weather windows for concrete pouring and curing.

Building a clear, Gantt-style programme that overlaps slab curing with off-site manufacturing can easily save two to three weeks.

Yes. In most areas, a padel court (with 4-metre-high walls and 6–8 metre lighting columns) is classed as a permanent sports structure and requires formal planning consent before construction can begin.

Local authorities will usually request:

  • A scaled site plan showing the 20 × 10 metre playing area plus surrounding run-off zones.

  • A noise and light impact assessment — an acoustic report is strongly recommended if homes are within 30 metres of the court. Mitigation, such as 2-metre acoustic fencing, may be included as a permit condition.

  • Details of floodlight lux levels and switching hours.

  • A surface-water drainage strategy.

Engaging with the planning officer early and submitting professional drawings typically keeps approval within 6 to 10 weeks. Building without consent risks enforcement action and costly retrofits.

Padel courts are low-touch compared with natural-grass sports, yet they still need a structured care plan to protect glass, turf and player safety:

  • Daily/weekly: Clear leaves, brush the artificial turf to redistribute sand and check net tension.

  • Monthly: Inspect glass bolts, fencing fixings and light heads; wash glass with non-abrasive cleaner for optimum visibility.

  • Quarterly: Top-up infill sand, torque-check structural bolts, and treat any moss or algae, particularly on shaded outdoor courts.

  • Annually: Professional service visit to deep-clean the carpet, re-paint game lines and replace worn net straps. The amount depends on climate and usage intensity.

Sticking to this schedule keeps warranty cover valid and can add several seasons to the carpet’s 5-7 year life cycle.

The playable rectangle is always 20 × 10 metres, but additional run-off space is essential for safety and access. A practical footprint is around 25 × 15 metres (approximately 375 m²), allowing 2 to 3 metres clear on all sides for doors, benches, and wheelchair access.

Indoor halls require at least 6 metres of unobstructed clear height from the turf to the lowest beam or light fitting. For professional-level venues, 8 metres is increasingly specified to accommodate high lobs.

With proper upkeep, the steel structure and tempered glass can last 20 years or more. The sand-filled turf typically needs replacing every 5 to 7 years under moderate use.

Manufacturers usually provide component-specific warranties:

  • Steel framework: 5-year anti-corrosion warranty, with the option to extend using coastal-grade coatings.

  • Tempered glass: 5-year breakage warranty covering manufacturing defects.

  • Artificial turf: 5 to 8 years UV warranty, adjusted based on local solar exposure.

Following the recommended maintenance schedule and using certified installers is essential to keep warranties valid.
